This course further develops the skills learned in Course #3011. An awareness of the structural design of words and the development of the habit of analyzing terms lead to an understanding of the definitions. The most common anatomic, diagnostic, operative and symptomatic terms and abbreviations related to each major body system are presented in various formats so that terms are both remembered and understood.

EKG Technician II

This is the second installment of the EKG technician course. In this class students will develop the hands on skills of performing procedures such as EKG's and preparing patients for the Holter Monitor testing. Students will learn about common arrhythmias and artifacts that interfere with accurate EKG readings. Nuclear medicine and other cardiovascular diagnostic tests will be reviewed. Upon completion of this class, the student is eligible to sit for EKG Technician certification offered by National Healthcare Association. Prerequisite: EKG Technician I.

This program is on the Certified TAA/WIOA Training Programs/Providers List of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Workforce Development System.

This program of study introduces the language of health and medicine.  It explores the origin of prefixes, roots, and suffixes used in medical terms and provides opportunities for combining these word elements into standard medical terminology.  The most common anatomic, diagnostic, operative, and symptomatic terms and abbreviations related to each major body system. 

The second component of the program covers the selection of ICD 10, and CPT-4 codes.  Students learn the procedures for outpatient settings and how that drives the reimbursement process.  Students will learn the basic concepts of physician coding, and the use of modifiers and HCPCS coding.  Students will perfect the 'rules and tools' of ICD 10, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding as well as introduce the students to medical billing concepts and electronic medical records.

The skills learned will prepare students to take a national certified professional coder exam.  This course investigates and presents a systemic approach to human diseases and disorders.
